[http://www.lmsoft.com/] METABOLICS REPORT, last update 2012 During the past 20 years, obesity among adults has risen significantly in the Western World. The latest data from the National Center for Health Statistics show that 30 percent of U.S. adults 20 years of age and older - over 60 million people - are obese. This increase is not limited to adults. The percentage of young people who are overweight has more than tripled since 1980. Among children and teens aged 6-19 years, 16 percent (over 9 million young people) are considered overweight. It is estimated that 139 million people in the Western World will be obese in the year 2010. These increasing rates raise concern because of their implications for human health. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of many diseases and health conditions, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, type II diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke and some cancers. Today's obesity drug market is dominated by the reuptake inhibitor sibutramine (ReductilŽ) and the lipase inhibitor orlistat (XenicalŽ). Albeit, these drugs display modest clinical benefits, the market for sibutramine and orlistat was USD 732 million in 2003. We are only at the beginning to understand the complex mechanism underlying the inbalance of food uptake and energy expenditure. The METABOLICS REPORT gives a snapshot of the state of the art. This report describes: · The signaling pathways inducing satiety or hunger · Novel therapeutic approaches · Presents a survey of more than 30 novel therapeutics and their stage of development The METABOLICS REPORT is unique in presenting the scientific background behind molecular targets and therapeutics addressing these targets. Thereby, the report strongly supports and facilitates the evaluation of molecular targets and novel therapeutics. The report can be purchased as a PDF file for €200,- plus VAT or as a hard copy version for € 250,- plus VAT. Teaser METABOLICS REPORT
