[http://www.lmsoft.com/] CANCER STEM CELLS REPORT, last update 2012 Enormous progress has been made in cancer treatment in the last decades. However, this progress is predominantly based on early detection, surgery, prevention and improved therapeutic regimes including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, transplantation and recently, targeted therapies. This is why some cancers, e.g. early detected breast cancer, can be reduced to a very unpleasant intermezzo and diagnosis must not necessarily mean the death sentence for the patient. However, if cancer is diagnosed at late stage - as especially lung- or pancreas carcinoma usually are, and surgery is no option, prognosis is poor. To date, even targeted therapies do not fulfill the expectations with respect to cure. The cancer stem cell model gives an explanation to some of the unsolved problems in cancer therapy like the paradox of response and survival. In addition, it leads the way to the next generation of cancer therapy. This report is an update on the latest development in cancer stem cells and it: · Explains the cancer stem cell model · Discusses the impact of this model on future trial design, preclinical model design, science and therapy · Gives a survey about the latest scientific development · Indicates therapeutic targets and their role in proliferation and renewal · Lists the present therapeutics and their stage of development It's a new generation and the cancer stem cell model adds another level of complexity. But it also opens up new business opportunities. Surprisingly, some of the 'old fashioned drugs' like Rapamycin might be viewed from a different perspective and therapeutic combinations altered in view of this model might translate into survival benefit. And of course, there will be novel molecular targets which might be addressed. The report can be purchased as a PDF file for €300,- plus VAT or as a hard copy version for € 350,- plus VAT.
